Hello friends,
What a summer it’s been! While family has been my greatest focus these past few weeks, July also brought some exciting news and plenty of inspiration. Let's jump into the highlights!
Earlier this month, I wrapped up The Art of Artistic Planning workshop. Organization and idea-gathering strategies designed to help artists stay focused, build momentum, and make steady progress toward their goals were shared. If you missed it, the recording is now available for purchase here!
Master Teacher
The end of June I had the opportunity to study with impressionist master Carolyn Anderson, whose work I've admired for years!

Watching Carolyn paint in person—and more importantly, standing in front of her original paintings—changed the way I see her work. I began to understand how she builds a painting through correct placement, confident abstraction, and beautiful color harmony. Whether painting a horse, portrait, or bird, she captures the essence of the subject without overexplaining it.

While in her studio, my mind immediately turned to the landscape. How could these same principles strengthen a western barn or a grove of cottonwoods? That's the gift of a great workshop. You don't just leave with new techniques—you leave seeing the world differently! First Place Honor
I'm still smiling over this exciting news!
"Sunlit Relics" received First Place in the Modern Impressionist Magazine Salon Contest. I'm incredibly grateful to judge Judd Mercer for selecting my painting. Receiving recognition from artists I admire is both humbling and encouraging, and I'm deeply thankful.

A Weekend in Jackson
I just returned home from delivering “Sunlit Relics” and other works to the Wilcox Gallery!
This trip became even more meaningful as I brought two of our children and niece along to met up with my dad, who is celebrating 50 years of representation in Jackson! Art truly is a family affair for us, and sharing these experiences across generations is one of my greatest joys.
Between reconnecting with fellow artists, meeting new friends, and taking a walk around beautiful String Lake just before the rain rolled in, I came home energized for September's Fall Arts Festival!
I can’t recommend Jackson Hole during the Fall Arts Festival enough! The annual Quick Draw takes place on Saturday, September 19th -which I’m honored to be included for the 6th consecutive year. Galleries throughout the town square come alive with artists, collectors, demonstrations, exhibitions, and the renowned Jackson Hole Art Auction. It is an inspiring few days unlike any other!
While viewing this year's auction, I found myself standing in front of paintings by E. Martin Hennings, Pino, Scott Christensen, Clyde Aspevig, and Tucker Smith. Instead of thinking about auction prices or sales, I kept thinking:
"Why would anyone ever want to sell these?"
I realize collecting art is a business for some. But, these are the kinds of paintings I would happily live with forever—not simply because they're valuable, but because they continue to teach. Every brushstroke, edge, color transition, and design decision offers another lesson. Owning paintings like these would be a lifelong education.
Gouache LIVE
Speaking of education, I'm thrilled to be a guest artist for Gouache LIVE on August 20th and 21st. In this 2-day online event, I'll be demonstrating a view from Creek Street in Ketchikan, Alaska. There's something magical about seeing an entire historic district perched on stilts above a sun-bathed creek. I can't wait to share this unique scene in my demo for Gouache LIVE!
